Undertaking a home remodeling project can seem daunting. Unlike browsing through a store for your new addition, kitchen, or bathroom, there’s no physical location to visit. While you may find plenty of inspiring images online, they often lack information about project costs and timelines. So, how do you initiate a remodeling project? While the specific process can vary between companies, allow me to explain how we handle it at Case. Our initial contact with potential clients typically occurs through phone calls or email inquiries. When someone expresses interest in a project, we gather essential information: the project’s location, how to contact you, project details, and a suitable time for an initial meeting to discuss your vision. Subsequently, we assign a Project Developer who specializes in the type of project you have in mind. Ideally, you’ll have a preliminary conversation with the Project Developer before meeting in person. This enables us to better understand your objectives and ensures that our in-person meeting at your home is more productive. The complimentary in-home meeting usually lasts 1-2 hours and covers several key aspects:

With this information, you can decide whether to proceed with a CaseStudy® agreement with Case. This step requires a fee equal to 1% of the projected project cost and focuses on design options, budgeting, and project scheduling. There’s a lot that unfolds during the Y2 Design Build phase; for detailed information, please refer to our documentation. At the end of the Y2 Design Build phase, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of the project’s design direction, budget, and expected timelines. Armed with this knowledge, you can choose to move forward to the Contract Documents phase, which involves a deposit of 7% of the projected project cost. This deposit will be credited towards the total project cost outlined in a construction contract. During this phase, we meticulously work through project details, including site inspections by trade experts, material selections, and design refinements. You’ll have a dedicated team consisting of a Project Developer, Designers, and a Project Manager to guide you through every decision-making process.

Once drawings are finalized, materials are selected, and we’ve consulted with trade specialists, we’ll create a fixed-price contract for the project. This contract will encompass the project cost, payment schedule, start and completion dates, as well as project-specific details. After signing the construction contract, we proceed to complete permit drawings, secure permits, and initiate material orders. Your Project Manager will create a schedule and begin the project’s production phase. A week or two before construction begins, we’ll arrange a pre-construction walk-through at your property. This meeting may also introduce you to your Case Craftsman. During this session, we’ll review the project, explain the upcoming steps and their timing, address any concerns or questions you may have, and establish regular meetings between you and the Project Manager. Effective and consistent communication is essential for a successful project.

Finally, we start building your project! Throughout this phase, we’ll strive to make the production process as hassle-free as possible. We employ various measures such as dust protection, air scrubbers, and utmost respect for your home. Constructing a project is a substantial undertaking, and we’ll delve into the finer details in future posts. That’s our comprehensive process:
